Trishuli River Rafting

The Trishuli is Nepal’s most popular rafting river; easy access from Kathmandu and Pokhara, scenic valleys and impressive gorges. The raft follows exhilarating rapids and easier section. The right amount of time all make it the perfect trip for first time or experienced rafters. Trishuli is one of the famous River rafting which is originated from holy lake of Gosainkunda. Once Lord, God Shiva was worried to get water because of thirst and he pushed three pin of iron on the rock from where water came and he fulfilled his thirst. So it is called Trishuli. Tri means “three” shuli means “water came from”. From the weapon of Shiva the name of river was named. So, during the time of Janai Purnima Festival Hindu people go to bath in the origination of this river.

Unfortunately, its popularity means that the river is crowded and the beaches disturbed during the normal rafting season. However, there is some good news. During the monsoon months the Trishuli changes character completely as huge run offs make the river swell and shear like an immense ribbon of churning ocean. When the river is running high and wild, there are rafters around, and rafting the Trishuli is without a doubt the most exciting thing you can do in Nepal during Monsoon, and it is possible one of the best two days big water rafting trip offered anywhere.

During the day, we run a numbers of rapids, that rate to 2 to 3. All the rapids have been given Nepali and English names: our guide can relate the story behind each one. We lunch on a beach remarkable for its unique sculptured boulders. Shortly after lunch we enter the Trishuli gorge. As the canyon narrows the walls becomes steep, densely, forested, the current accelerates and the rapids increase in the size and frequency. This is the time to hang on. After such a stimulating experience, it is humbling to see a Majhi (Fisherman) building his precarious traps in such turbulence. Our last rapid, Jholungepul, is named for an extensive suspension bridge. Here we often encounter an enthusiastic audience, they line the bridge excited to see us pass beneath. The geologic formation is tremendously interesting and not worthy. We camp at Kurintar on a sandy beach on the Trishuli beach.
