Dhaulagiri is rarely new trek where only few people visits per year. Our trek takes us across the Kali Gandaki River and then north into the heart of the massif; from the base camp we come to the high point of our trek, the traverse of French Pass (5,360 m), the hidden Valley and Dhampus Pass (5182 m), a high level; route which brings us back to the upper Kali Gandaki Valley in Jomsom. From here we, either, fly back to Kathmandu via Pokhara or we can continue from Jomsom till Birethanti or to Pokhara. This magnificent peak rises like a giant shoulder of shining ice and snow. This is a conical peak on the northern side of Thapa (Dhampus) Pass and generally snow covered but not alpine in nature i.e. no crevasses.

During this Dhampus peak trip you can enjoy the magnificent views of Dhaulagiri 1- 8163m, Sita Chuchura 6611m, Nilgiri 6940m, Thapa Peak 6015m, Tukche Peak 6920m, Tilicho peak 7134m, Thorong Peak 6484m, Yakawa Kan 6482m, Puth Hiunchuli 7246m, Mukut Himal 6639m, Tangu Peak 6197m, Hongde peak 6556m, Tsarste 6347m, and more snow-capped mountains.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu

When you will land in Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu, check your hand bag, go to immigration office, make visa for your trip and get your suitcase, where outside our represented member shows you the board of our Company and your Name, transfer to the hotel. Our director meets you in the hotel and discusses about your whole trip. In the evening you will participate to experience typical Nepali food with cultural dance show.

Day 2

Kathmandu Cultural Tour & Permit Arrangement

Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two major neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significance. There will be a full day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Bouddhanath, Old Kathmanu city as well as Swyambhunath

Day 3

Kathmandu to Beni (850m) via Pokhara, 8 hrs drive

After breakfast, we drive to Beni, from Kathmandu via Pokhara. The drive should take around 4 hours and it offers good scenic views. Beni is situated near by confluence of the Myagdi Khola and the Kali Gandaki Camp. Being the districts headquarter, Beni encloses police check post where our trekking permits will be examined.

Day 4

Beni to Babichaur (955m) 6 hrs walk

From Beni, we leave the Kali Gandaki and head west along the north bank of the Myagdi Khola through the village of Beni Mangalghat to Singa Bazar. You will cross suspension bridge beyond the village to south bank of the river, the track creates a little half circle before crossing another bridge, near the village of Simalchour. Then, continute walk to Babichaur.

Day 5

Babichaur to Dharapani (1400m) 6 hrs walk

Today, we will continue walk through terraced hills, the village of Shahashradhara, Duk Khola until reaching point of Ratorunga. Trekking trail goes narrow and terraces fade away on side of the river. The path departs to the village of Dharapani.

Day 6

Dharapani to Muri (1860m) 5 hrs walk

Today, after crossing a river, we head north to Phedi. As we leave, the trail starts climbing. We come across many switch-backs until we arrive at the ridge. The trail again climbs steeply up to Muri at 1850 m. moving up along the trail, we trek to Sibang and Mattim. From here, continuing up an incline to the snout of a ridge, we descend to the Gatti Khola and reach Phalai Gaon (1810m). We then cross the Dhara Khola to again emerge on the west bank of the Myagdi Khola. After climbing a ridge, we finally reach the large Magar village of Muri. From Muri, we get amazing views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and other surrounding mountains.

Day 7

Muri to Boghara (2085m) 6 hrs walk

After a short descend, we cross a stream and continue through terraced fields. Climbing a ridge, we reach the pass from where we can see Mt. Ghustung South (6465 m). Descending to the Myagdi Khola and trekking along its West Bank to the village of Naura, we climb for a short while. Traversing a grassy hill and climbing a steep slope with switch-backs, we then descend through a forest and terraced fields to reach Boghara (2085m).

Day 8

Boghara to Dobang (2520) 5 hrs walk

Leaving Boghara, we continue along the trail. We descend through terraced fields to a small ridge and then through a forest to reach Jyardan. After the settlement, a high winding path crosses a rocky area and then descends before climbing up again to Lipshe where there is a single hut. The trail continues through a forest to Lapche Kharka and then climbs to Dobang. Today the path is quite difficult and sometimes we might need to use ropes.

Day 9

Dovan to Choriban Khola (3115m) 5 hrs walk

Cross wooden brigde out of Dobang and trekking path ascends towards wooded area. Passing through the beautiful forest, we rapidly gain altitude as mountains surround us. After crossing the Myagdi Khola, we later cross a stream to reach Choriban Khola.

Day 10

Choriban Khola to Italian Base Camp (3670m) 7 hrs walk

We continue along the trail (which is not very well defined) to the terminal moraine of the Chhonbarban Glacier and enter the glacier from the right. Tukche Peak (6837 m) becomes visible straight on at the far end, while the impressive north flank of Dhaulagiri I (8167 m) dominates the skyline to our right. After a short while we reach the Italian Base Camp (3660 m). To the west are the peaks of Dhaulagiri II (7751m), Dhaulagiri III (7715 m) and Dhaulagiri V (7618 m).

Day 11

Acclimatization day/ rest day in Italian Base Camp

Today is the rest day for acclimatization to diminish altitude sickness. It is suggested that your whole body become accustomed to the high altitude and be familiarized for higher altitudes in the days to follow.

Day 12

Italian Base Camp to Glacier Camp (5205m) 6hrs walk

Your trekking trail today is prone to stone fall which exceeds through narrow gorge. Care about your physical fitness because of high altitude in the Himalayas.

Day 13

Glacier Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4740m) 7 hrs walk

Today is your courageous day to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. North face of Dhaulagiri (8,167m) grants the impressive view with governing the skyline to your right. Enjoy the view of Dhaulagiri II (7,751m), Dhaulagiri III (7,715m), and Dhaulagiri v (7,618m) with extraordinary Icefall that descends to north-east col.

Day 14

Rest day in Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,740m)

Today is another day of acclimatization to adjust high Himalayan air. Explore the fabulous view, with surrounding areas.

Day 15

Dhaulagiri Base Camp to Hidden Valley (5200m) via French Pass (5360m) 6 hrs walk

After proper acclimatization, we climb two terraced hills before entering an ablation valley. We then climb to the French Pass (5360m) from where we can see Mukut Himal (6328 m), Tashi Kang (6386 m) and Sita Chuchura (6611 m). To the south is Tukche Peak (6920 m) and beyond is the massive peak of Dhaulagiri I.

Day 16

Hidden Valley to Yak Kharka (3680m) via Dhampus Pass (5200m)

Today, after climbing over the 5200m Dhampus Pass, we traverse avalanche prone slopes and then descend steeply to Yak Kharka.

Day 17

Yak Kharka to Thapa Peak Base Camp

Today we walk towards Thapa Peak Base Camp from Yak Kharka with our trekking crew. In the evening sleep in Thapa Peak Base Camp.

Day 18

Rest day in Thapa Peak Base Camp

In Base Camp we do rest and proper arrangement for climbing Thapa Peak.

Day 19

Thapa Peak Base Camp to High Camp

We follow the path of our guide and we sleep in High Camp today.

Day 20

One Extra day because of weather

This is one day more because of bad weather or technical problems.

Day 21

Summit Thapa Peak (6012m) & return to Base Camp

Today is our last destination where we summit to Thapa Peak and return back to Base Camp.

Day 22

Thapa Peak Base Camp to Yak kharka

We trek back to Yak kharka from Base Camp after having successful climb of Thapa Peak.

Day 23

Yak Kharka to Jomsom (2710m)

We now descend to the dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge. Enjoy the view of Nilgiri while moving down towards headquarter of Mustang (Jomsom). You will meet the trekkers who arrive after crossing Thorong La pass of Annapurna and trekkers who depart to Upper Mustang too.

Day 24

Jomsom to Pokhara Flight

Early morning fly from Jomsom to Pokhara which takes 2o minute by Twin Otter plane.

Day 25

Pokhara to Kathmandu

Drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara which takes 6 hours or even one can fly from Pokhara city.

Day 26

Rest day/Shopping day in Kathmandu

Today is the day of rest or shopping in Kathmandu.

Day 27

Departure to respective destination

Our represented member from Adventure Mountain Club Treks and Expedition assists you for your departure to respective destination at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu Nepal
