To the north–east of Kathmandu lies the Langtang National park. The off-the beaten trail to Panch Pokhari, (Literary means five ponds) situated at 4462 meters offers excellent hike through beautiful Oak and Rhododendron forest with magnificent views. The snow capped mountains of Jugal Himal at sunrise and the interaction with Sherpa’s who live in this region makes this trek worthwhile.
ITINERARY
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu

Meet with our representative and transfer to Hotel over night.
Day 02: Kathmandu.

Day 03: Kathmandu–Chautara- Syaule
Duration: 5hrs drives and 2 hrs trek
Height: 1418m
Drive 4 hrs to Chautara along the Araniko highway road to Tibet and trek 2 hrs to Syaule. Over night at camp
Day 04: Syaule – Kamikharka Danda
Duration: 6 hours
Height: 2300m
The trail rises steadily to OKRIN DANDA at 2300m continue steeply up toward the forested kamikharka danda ridge.One-hour beyond okrin Danda is an unsual double mani wall where there are fine camp sites, there may be water in the autumn, but there is no water during the spring. From this point the route ascends steeply through forests full of woodcutters to the ridge crest. Camp in a grassy area surrounded by forest. The water supply is 30 minutes walk down the western slopes of the ridge.
Day 05: Kamikharka Danda – Chyochyo Danda

The route along the Kamikharka danda is an excellent trail through beautiful oak and rhododendron forest with magnificent views. Water is scarce for much of the way. The trail follows the ridge crest, rising to a large chorten at 3160m, then traverses pasture across the western slopes of Chyochyo Danda where there are many summer pasture shelters. After another descent the trail passes a ruined stone house and a well used camp site with a good spring a short distance down the western slope. This is the first free water on the ridge and the site is an excellent one in pleasant forest.
Day 06: Chyochyo Danda– Hile Bhanjyang
Duration: 6hours
Height: 3800m
The trail ascends steeply and steadily across stony, grassy pastures to cross the ridge near some cairns at 3750m. From the ridge the route descends through forest, crossing gullies with water to reach another crest at chang Samarphu (3913m.). The final descent to Hille Bhanjyang is steep. In spring this can be in deep Snow with difficult icy section in the gullies. At hile bhanjyang there is a campsite with water at 3800m.
Day 07: Hile Bhanjyang-Nasem Pati

Height: 3862m
The trail climbs steeply to a hillock at 3980, and then traverses open ground along a flagstone trail to another crest. The views are wonderful in clear weather. There is a stone house above nasem pati (3800m) and well trodden trails that lead off the ridge crest to both east and west. There is no running water here in the spring. Under good walking condition day 4 and 5 could be combined into one day of about six hours walking.
Day 08: Nasem Pati-Panch Pokhari

Height: 4462m
It's about a four-hour climb on a well-defined trail to Pach Pokhari, five holy lakes at 4050m. There are two metal-roofed huts, a sheet metal-enclosed shrine to Shiva and a pile of cast-ironed tridents. During the June/ July full moon thousands of Nepalese come to worship. You should not wash in the holy stream near the temples.
There is often snow on this ridge, making the trek more difficult. You can make a day trip to Panch Pokhari from nesam pati and avoid camping in the snow
Day 09: Panch Pokhari

Day 10: Panch Pokhari- Gai kharka
Duration: 6 houres
Height: 2200m
Return to Nesam Pati and descend west on a good trail, past several ravines with water but no camping, to a good camsite at Gai kharka (2530m)
Day 11: Gai Kharka- Yangri.
Duration: 5houres
Height: 13600m
The descent continues through forest on a track that is sometimes steep and rough, crossing two major watercourses. Pass a few substantial villages, including yarsa, and then descend a small and very steep trail directly to the bridge over the pach pokhari khola. Climb to Hutanbrang, than descend and flow the larke khola downstream to the first of the two bridges below yangri village, where there is a pleasant campsite on the east bank at 1360m.
Day12: Yangri- Laghang gompa
Duration: 7 and half hrs
Height: 2800m
The trail crosses bridges over the larke and Yangri kholas, and passes through Yangri village climbing rapidly to the west and north. There are lateral trails everywhere. At the stream crossing below and South-west of Dalegaon there is a beautiful lunch or camping site with fine water and big shade trees.
The trail continues, often steeply, up through country dotted with villages and fields, scrub hillside and pleasant forest. The large village between Dalegaon and Gangkharka is called gangdwang. From Gangkharka a large trail leads into the next side the valley, where camping is possible, then the trail climbs relentlessly for 900m to Laghang Gompa. This is a beautiful forested area and a lovely, quiet campsite at an elevation of 2800m.
Day 13: Laghang Gompa - Tarkheghyang
Duration: 3hrs
Height: 2560m
It takes just over three hours from Laghang Gompa to Tarke Gyang.The trails climbs through beautiful forest, and then enters an area of small pastures, stone houses, scrub growth and cow trails. Be sure to backtrack if you find yourself headed south on the ridge trail to sermathang. The trail down to Tarke Gyang is very steep, rough and eroded.
Day 14: Tarkheghyang – Melamchi Goan
Duration: 4hrs
Height: 3597m
Down after leaving village to Melamchi river and steep climb back to Melamchi village.
Day 15: Melamchi Goan- Tharepati
Duration: 4 and half hrs
Height: 2470m
Now trek will be mostly on the ridge two-side views to east and west walking down hill. During the March April it will be beautiful Rhododendron flowers before Kutumsang.
Day 16: Tharepati- Kutumsang
Duration: 7hrs
Height: 2190m
Day with good views of Helambu valley and walking up and down the along the ridge all day and climb up to Chisapani for good Sun set views.
Day17 Kutumsang- Chisapani
Day 18 Chisapani-Sundarijal-Kathmandu
A short trek 3 hrs and drive1 ½will bring you to Kathmandu. |
