Manasarovar Lake lies at 4,556 m above mean sea level. It is the highest fresh-water lake in the world. Lake Manasarovar is relatively round in shape. The lake freezes in winter and melts only in the spring. The Sutlej River, the (Brahmaputra River), the Indus River, and the Karnali River all trace their sources to its close vicinity.

Like Mount Kailash, Lake Mansarovar is a place of pilgrimage, attracting religious people from India, Tibet and the neighboring countries. Bathing in the Manasa Sarovar and drinking its water is believed to cleanse all sins. Pilgrims come to take ceremonial bathes in the cleansing waters of the lake.

According to Hindu religion, the lake was first created in the mind of the Lord Brahma. Hence, in Sanskrit it is called "Manasarovar", which is a combination of the words Manas (mind) and Sarovar (lake). The lake, in Hindu mythology, is also supposed to be the summer abode of swans, which are considered as very wise and sacred birds. It is also believed the Devas descend to bathe in the lake between 3 and 5 am the time of the day known as Brahma Muhurta. Buddhists also associate the lake to the legendary lake known as Anavatapta in Sanskrit and Anotatta in Pali, where Queen Maya is believed to have conceived Buddha. The lake has a few monasteries on its shores. The most notable of which is the ancient Chiu Gompa Monastery, which has been built right onto a steep hill. It looks as if it has been carved right out of the rock. The Jains and the Bonpas of Tibet equally revere this spot with great enthusiasm.

Itinerary

Day 01:  Arrive at Kathmandu airport. Transfer to Hotel. Overnight at hotel
Day 02: Sightseeing of Kathmandu. Full day’s sightseeing in Kathmandu valley includes the Hindu Temple complex at Pashupatinath and the biggest Buddhist stupa at Buddhanath. Also will visit Monkey Temple the Swyambhunath (2000 years old temple) and visit Patan city of fine arts. Return to hotel. Overnight at hotel
Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Nyalam (3,750m)
We start our journey at early morning from our office. We will have our breakfast at Dhulikhel after one and half hour drive. After driving at down hill river valley of Sunkoshi and Bhotekoshi. We arrive at the border about 11:00 am. After immigration formalities at the Nepal side you will drive further to Zhangmu. Here also you will have to complete immigration formalities from the Chinese side. From Zhangmu drive further to Nyalam for 2 ½ hrs. Overnight at guesthouse
Day 04: Acclimatization day at Nyalam (3,750m). Overnight at guesthouse
Day 05: Nyalam to Saga (4,650m) (Labug-La 5050m, Peku-tso and Saga, 245 km)
On the first long driving day over the sandy and rocky land of Tibet, other things like lake, nomads chasing thousands of Yaks and sheep keep you busy. By the late afternoon you will cross Brahma Putra River way to typical Chinese and Tibetan town. Saga for night. Overnight at guesthouse
Day 06: Saga to Paryang (4,540m) 230km 7-8 hrs
Jeeps and trucks roll on the wide valley following rivers and grazing land of yaks and sheep. Far south you can see snow covered peaks nearby you, lots of rocky peaks and a sand dun gives you an ideal world. Depends on season, nomads and other mobile shopkeepers are attired by beautiful traditional costume, waiting your arrival with hot tea and other supplies along with big smile.
Day07: Drive Paryang to Manasarovar (4,556m)
The longest driving day (277km) starts with full of excitement, by the late afternoon you can have the first sight of Holy Kailash Parbat and Manasarovar. Here, a small village near by the Lake Manasarovar.
Day 08: Rest day in Manasarovar (4,556m)]
The highest lake of fresh water with turquoise complexion in the world Is full of fishes and swans. Holy Kailash Parbat, Mt.Gurula-Mandala, Lake Rashekshi are lying on its surrounding. The region is considered rich for gold and other mines, hot springs and hundreds of wild living creatures. After lunch we will drive around Manasarovar Lake for 3-4 hours for Parikarma.
Day 09: Manasarovar to Tarchen(4,700m)
After complieting the memorable morning Bath and Puja we will drive towards Tarchen.
Day 10: Tarchen to Dira Puk (5000m)
After early breakfast, depart to Tarboche (starting point for Kailash Parikarma). It is one of the exciting days walking along the beautiful rocky cliffs; water falls with some clouds in the clear blue sky make you feel that Great God Shiva is every where with tons of blessing to you. Time ti time the face of Mt.Kailash will keep on appearing.
Day 11: Cross Dolmala pass and trek down to Zuthul Puk
Continue Parikarma over Dolmala pass (5,650m) this day is Hardest but Holiest day of your pilgrimage yatra. Once you reach the top, just do the holiest offering and sit down for meditation to forget yourself. Once your steps go down, Parvati-stal and Gauri Kunda are on the way. By the lake afternoon you will arrive Zuthal Puk (the cave of Miracles). The great ascetic Milerappa is supposed to have performed miracles here.
Day 12: Zuthal Puk to Tarchan to Manasarovar (4,556m)
After early breakfast trek further for 10km (4-5 hrs) to arrive at the ending point of Parikarma where jeeps shall be waiting to drive the pilgrims back to Manasarovar.
Day 13: Manasarovor to Paryang (4540m) which takes about 8-9 hrs. Overnight at guesthouse or tented camp
Day 14: Paryang to Saga (4640m) which takes about 8-9 hrs. Overnight at guesthouse or tented camp
Day 15: Saga to Nyalam which takes about 8-9 hrs. Overnight at guesthouse
Day 16: Nyalam to Kathmandu. Driver back to Kathmandu which takes about 8 hrs.
Day 17: Free day in Kathmandu. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 18: Final departure. Transfer to airport.
